NDSJS Creative Writing Competition
Mental Health Organisation Headspace
Your entry in the NDSJS 2021 Creative Writing Competition will raise funds for Headspace. Headspace is a mental health promotion charity - this means alongside their ability to provide no or low cost counselling services, they also raise awareness about mental health. The organisation's main goal is educating people aged 12-25 on how to maintain a healthy mind, and how to get support if you are experiencing mental ill health.
NDSJS thought a fun way for you to raise funds is by entering a short creative writing piece with 100% of the entry fee going straight to our Headspace Fundraiser. To encourage your creativity we have a first place prize of $50 for a Dymocks gift voucher. We will also publish the winner, and highly commended pieces in the annual NDSJS Publication.
Being in lockdown can create an array of feelings including some blue ones, as we're not all seeing each other on campus. So for this competition let's bring some light to each others headspace. Using the general theme of your favourite things as written below to create a piece that captures at least one moment of joy:
The 2021 creative prompt is:
" Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things."
- My Favourite Things, The Sound of Music.
Your creative piece must be:
-
Between 300-500 words
-
The piece can be a story, a vignette, a poem, a letter, just so long as it's creative
-
Submitted by 11:59pm Wednesday 15th of September 2021

Note: the story does not have to contain joy in every sentence, it could be for example, a character that finds joy whilst experiencing a stressful job/day/etc. The focus is on finding joy, whatever that means to you and/or your character.

The title is not included in the word count.
Entries need to be made with a minimum $5 donation to our Fundraiser for Headspace: Donate via this link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/creative-writing-competition-for-mental-health
